Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) was established as a public university in 1990 in the city of Barcelona. Committed from its beginnings to the pursuit of excellence, it holds 22 undergraduate programs, 91 master courses and 9 doctoral degrees in the fields of biomedical sciences, social sciences and humanities and communication and information technologies. The UPF serves nowadays over 11500 students, around 25% being international. Its structure comprises 1300 academic staff and 635 in administration and management. The work will be carried out at the Department of Information and Communication Technologies at UPF (DTIC). The department is organized around 16 groups pursuing a wide range of topics that include networking, wireless communications, multimedia, image and music processing, medical imaging, interactive technologies, artificial intelligence, data mining, and computational neuroscience, among others. DTIC participates extensively in national and international research programmes. Despite its relatively small size, DTIC is an active participant and coordinator of FP7 projects, within the 4 specific research and innovation areas (30 projects in Coordination, including 1 FET Flagship; 8 ERC grants; 12 People grants and 4 projects in Capacities). UPF will participate with the Natural Language Processing Group TALN of the Department of Information and Communication Technologies. TALN, UPF focuses on research on multilingual discourse generation, summarization and information extraction. It has a longstanding experience in international collaborative research.
